What an amazing day with my fellow neighbors. I showed up with 14 bags of mulch in the back of my Mercedes, and Matthew carried the tools that we picked up from Metro Public Works that they so graciously have out for use on community projects. What a blessing our city is! They were so easy to work with they also even provided over 150 daffodil bulbs to plant in the cemetery.
I also experienced so many surprise throughout the day.
First of all, several individuals actually pulled over to say "thank you" and to ask what we were actually doing. There are so many people that live in the Haynes Manor, Trinity Hills, and Katie Hill neighborhoods who drive past this historic landmark every single day, not knowing the significance of the family that occupies the neglected and vandalized cemetery. I hugged each of the individuals and thanked them for stopping by and praying for the Talbot Family all of these years. I also explained that we are not some unique organization, we are just simply community members that want to see the cemetery in a better condition and to honor the Talbot family.
Second, one of the volunteers, Ted Wagner, realized that he had a friend with the last name of Talbot. Long story short, I was almost in awe of the fact that Jane Talbot and Bryan Talbot (brother and sister) came to the clean up with the invite from Ted. They were the most amazing individuals and just so excited to be there! Jane brought an old photo of one of the grave sites, but also stated she had many boxes of photos or different documents that were passed along from generation to generation. Jane and Bryan are 5th generation Talbots. Pretty cool huh!
I would like to thank the following individuals who played a huge roll in making this happen :
Mr. Doug Grimes
Troy Fields ( and Adrienne)
Keely Patrick Harding
The homeless men on Trinity Lane for helping plant flowers and making me laugh.
Courtney Wheeler with the Mayors office of Neighborhoods
Adrienne Russell - Beautification Project Manager with Metro Public Works
And I don't think I am forgetting anyone- But I apologize if i did.
What an amazing experience. Simply Put.
